Where to Stay in Frankfurt, Germany

Motel One Frankfurt Bed

Where you stay can make or break a trip. So the older we get and the more we travel, the pickier we’ve become with our hotel choices. We’re not in our 20’s anymore, so price is no longer the biggest factor we consider. If a hotel has a review score under an 8 on Booking or a 4 on Google – they’re automatically out of the running! While planning our trip to Frankfurt, each hotel we looked at had a number of similar features – luggage storage, Check-in/Check-out times, an on-site bar, and breakfast as an add-on. Below I’ve put together a breakdown of where we stayed and its pros and cons, as well as the other hotels we considered but ultimately ruled out for our two day stay in September (Saturday & Sunday nights).

Where We Stayed

Berliner Straße 55, 60311 Frankfurt am Main

Our flight to Frankfurt landed first thing in the morning and we arrived at the hotel at 10am. Checkout isn’t until noon, so we knew it wasn’t likely we’d get into our room that early but figured we’d try. We were able to drop off our bags at reception before wandering around the city for a few hours. We stopped back in around 1pm and our room was ready. There are multiple Motel One locations throughout Frankfurt, in case you’d rather stay closer to a different area/attraction.

The hotel had very friendly multilingual staff at the reception desk as well as the bar, both of which are open 24 hours. We prefer not to eat in our hotel when we’re traveling, but they do have a cold breakfast buffet available in the bar. Breakfast runs from 6am – 10am Monday through Friday, and 7am – 11am on the weekends. Obviously drinks at the bar are a bit more expensive than what you’ll find nearby, but that’s to be expected from a hotel bar. Especially when the bar has as extensive of a cocktail menu as this one. The room is on the smaller side compared to what I’m used to in the United States – basically just room for a bed and some storage – but is pretty typical of European hotels I’ve seen thus far. Since we’re just sleeping there, small rooms don’t bother me!

Positives:
  • Location – walking distance from popular tourist attractions like Römerberg and Kleinmarkthalle (about 5 minutes).
  • King bed – it does take up most of the room, which could be a con for some people.
  • 24 hour bar featuring gin cocktails.
  • Tram stop steps from the entrance.
  • Free bag storage.
  • Parking available for an extra fee.
  • Small safe in room.
Negatives:
  • The AC did NOT work well and I woke up sweating every night. After checking other reviews, it seems to be a common Motel One problem.
  • No coffee machine or mini fridge.
  • Breakfast not included in room price.
  • Bar has snacks and toast, but no full meals besides breakfast.
  • No laundry or room service.
  • No conditioner in the shower, only shampoo and bodywash.

*Disclaimer – I may or may not have forgotten to take any room photos until we were getting ready to leave, hence the unmade bedding/towels*

Other Frankfurt Hotels We Considered

We ultimately opted not to stay at either of these hotels for one simple reason – location. Besides the PalmenGarten, the Motel One Frankfurt-Romer was just closer to everything we wanted to see. But maybe one of these could be perfect for you!

Thurn-und-Taxis-Platz 8, 60313 Frankfurt am Main

Positives:

  • Cheapest option considered – $255/night for a Queen room.
  • Restaurant, bar, breakfast and to-go snack station on site.
  • Parking available for an extra fee.
  • Room service available.
  • Free bag storage.
  • Pet friendly – for an additional fee.
  • Smoke-free property.

Negatives:

  • Breakfast not included in room price.
  • No coffee machine in the room.
  • No laundry service on site.
  • No wardrobe, mini fridge, or safe in the room.
  • Many online reviews about air conditioning not working.
  • Entrance is down an alleyway, may be a bit harder to find.

Konrad-Adenauer-Straße 7, 60313 Frankfurt am Main

Positives:

  • Multiple dining & drink options on site.
  • Pool, gym and spa services on site.
  • Non-smoking rooms.
  • Dry cleaning and room service available.
  • Pet friendly – for an additional fee.
  • Parking available for an extra fee.
  • Largest rooms of hotels considered.
  • Coffee machine and mini fridge in room.

Negatives:

  • Most expensive option – $370/night for a Deluxe Queen room.
  • Furthest from the main train station and attractions we wanted to see.
  • Breakfast not included in room price.
  • Like the others, some complaints about air conditioning quality.
