Welcome back to the third installment of Will Travel for Coffee! Next up on my coffee shops review tour: Chestnut Hill Coffee Co in Philadelphia, PA, and Malvern Buttery in Malvern, PA. Unfortunately, this is the first time since starting this series that I’ve come across a coffee shop I probably wouldn’t go back to.
Reminder: you won’t be getting stars or number ratings from me. The reliability of individual’s review scores are pretty hit or miss, and are 100% subjective to differing tastes. So what you’ll find are things like the vibes, thoughts on my orders, recommendations/tips, and if I liked the coffee shop or not! Check out the rest of the series here.
Wake Up. Drink Coffee. Travel. Repeat.
Chestnut Hill Coffee Co.

I didn’t get anything to eat this time around, since we were stopping in for a caffeine fix before walking around the Chestnut Hill Home & Garden Festival. Jasper on the other hand got a blueberry tarte that looked delicious. Drinks wise, we ordered a salted caramel oat milk cappuccino and an oat milk hot chocolate. I liked the coffee, but unfortunately I didn’t really taste the salted caramel. I may as well have ordered a regular cappuccino. They have some seating in the back, as well as a little upstairs area that looked like a nice place to relax or get some work done.
Honestly, my main complaint was the wait! There was a group of 5-6 other people waiting for drinks, and it took us 15-20 minutes to get ours. I’d understand the delay if the register was constantly busy, but that wasn’t the case. There were three people working: one making hot drinks, and the other two either watched or occasionally grabbed iced coffees/ran the register. It seems like a spot geared more toward regulars, because a few came in and got their drinks almost immediately after ordering. I wouldn’t go out of my way to stop in here again, especially with other options nearby.

Malvern Buttery

A big reason why this cafe in Malvern, PA made it onto on my list of coffee shops to try was because of photos I saw on social media. You know a place is going to be good when there is a line 10 people deep outside, and there are still another 30ish people ahead of you once you do get inside. When you get up to the counter someone takes your food order, and then you’re taken to the register to order drinks and pay.
Because we had plans to try a nearby restaurant a few hours later for lunch, we wanted to keep breakfast light. There were so many options to choose from, it was honestly a bit overwhelming! I got an iced oat milk latte and a morning bun – croissant dough swirled in cinnamon sugar. Jasper got an oat milk hot chocolate and a yogurt parfait with blueberry-lavender jam. Everything was amazing, my favorite coffee shop of the series so far. We’re definitely planning to stop in again on a weekday when it’s hopefully a little less busy.
